Rant #7
Oopppsss! Before you say anything let me just say this: I am freakin' good at this! LOL. Between working here, working there, working everywhere, basically living in a full-time "Work Mode: ON" life, I somehow still managed to stumble into something ridiculously fun. And wow, it was an experience.
So, there I was, walking casually through a maze (because that’s what normal people do on a day off, right?), when I came across this game. I think it was paintball…? Honestly, I still don’t know what it’s called, but hey orange balls, targets, and adrenaline? I'm in.
Here’s what I think the rules were: You get five small orange balls. Then you’re supposed to shoot them into... something? I’m still not sure where they were supposed to go. A container? A portal to another universe? Who knows. 😂 What I do know is that the main goal was to knock down some small bamboo sticks from a distance. Sounds easy, right? WRONG. But then again, your girl’s got talent.
Guess who knocked down two targets like a total pro? This beautiful and kind lady lol. Power. Skill. Destiny. (Okay, mostly luck, but let’s not focus on that.)
I was having the time of my life. I mean, I never do this kind of stuff! Between work emails and adulting, I forgot what fun felt like. For a brief moment, I considered switching careers maybe I have a hidden future in competitive orange ball shooting. Is that a thing? Can I go pro?
Just as I was basking in my moment of glory, a group of Chinese tourists arrived. And of course, my inner competitor immediately screamed, “Let’s GO!” Did I win? Let’s just say… I walked away dramatically and left them guessing. 😎
But on a deeper note (yes, there’s a deeper note), it reminded me of something important. There are so many things in life we think we can’t do mostly because we’re afraid to try. Afraid to fail. I hate failure, honestly. But trying this silly little game reminded me: if you never try, you’ll never know.
The first time I saw it; I backed off because it looked difficult. Maybe because I grew up playing marbles and never tried anything like this before. But curiosity got the best of me and I’m glad it did.
I’m 30 now, and sometimes I feel like I still don’t fully know myself. But each experience no matter how random or weird helps me discover a little more. All I knew before was that I love eating and sleeping (don’t we all? 😂), but now… maybe I’m also a bamboo-knocking, orange-ball-shooting champion in the making.
Stay curious. Try the weird things. And if you see a maze with a mysterious game in the middle of nowhere play it. You might just learn something new… or at least walk away with a funny story and a new hobby idea.
